Animal Health and Livestock Services Professionals Council

Tripureshwor, Kathmandu

President Message

After 24 years of continuous efforts and voices raised by dedicated technical professionals working tirelessly in remote and rural areas of the country for a legal framework to regulate and standardize the field of animal health and livestock services, the “Animal Health and Livestock Services Professional Council Act, 2079” and the “Regulation, 2081” have finally been issued. With this milestone, the sector has achieved a significant accomplishment, while at the same time new challenges have emerged in initiating the functions mandated by the Act.
Following the historic first election, the next four years of this Council are bound to be both important and challenging. During my tenure, I have taken as my key responsibility the determination of professionals’ qualifications, registration of names, conduction of examinations, formulation and enforcement of national standards for practitioners, drafting and implementation of codes of conduct, provision of continuing education, and setting as well as enforcing standards and conditions for academic institutions. Similarly, I aim to initiate necessary steps for producing qualified human resources in coordination with universities and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training, and to ensure an enabling environment for quality service delivery. In addition, I shall play a coordinating role with federal, provincial, and local governments on matters related to professionals, while also establishing a well-equipped office building for the Council.
Furthermore, I consider it an important responsibility of this Council to strengthen the relationship between veterinarians and livestock professionals, ensure the sustainable development of livestock-based production and productivity, safeguard human and animal health, guarantee access to nutritious food for all, and promote the responsible use of veterinary medicines to control and minimize infectious diseases.
With the national interest and sustainable development of society in mind, I extend my best wishes for the professional success of all practitioners. At the same time, I call upon all national and international stakeholders associated with this field to join hands in cooperation with us.
Sincerely,
Dammar Bahadur Bamma
President
